The FHNW is one of Switzerland's leading universities of applied sciences. The FHNW comprises ten universities in the fields of applied psychology, architecture, construction and geomatics, design and art, computer science, life sciences, music, teacher training, social work, technology and the environment, and economics. The FHNW campuses are located in the four cantons of Aargau, Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt and Solothurn.


Over 13,000 students are enrolled at the FHNW. Around 1,200 lecturers impart practical and market-oriented knowledge in 34 Bachelor's and 20 Master's degree programmes as well as in numerous continuing education courses. FHNW graduates are sought-after specialists.


In addition to education, application-oriented research and development is a high priority at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. Together with national and international partners from industry, business, culture, administration and institutions, the FHNW implements research projects and participates in European research programs.

Pax, Swiss Life Insurance Company Ltd, is a life and pension insurance company based in Basel. It operates exclusively in the Swiss market and focuses on solutions for private and occupational pension provision. Pax distributes its products through independent partners, which it supports through advisory centres and regional sales offices. The company employs around 300 people. Pax is organised as a cooperative under the umbrella of Pax Holding and can determine its own development independently.
